My name is Sophie Glasgow and I'm a portrait photographer based in Kansas. Now booking photoshoots in Wichita, Kansas City, Manhattan, and Lawerence, Kansas.
Matching can be cute, but it’s generally best to pick outfits with the same vibe, that aren’t the exact same.
You don’t want your outfits to distract from the focus of your photos – you! Brighter colors pull focus to the wrong places and can sometimes reflect oddly onto your skin. Neutral and earth toned outfits make your photos truly POP (trust me!) If you’d like to add a pop of color, make sure it’s only one article of clothing between the both of you. Try and stick to a total of two to four colors if you can.
Wear clothes that flatter your body shape and make you feel confident. If you’re feeling your best during your photoshoot, you’ll love the outcome of your photos.
If you opt for only one outfit during your session, use accessories and layers to change up your look! You can add on a hat, scarf, jacket, necklace, or whatever you want to switch it up at your session.
When it comes to shoes, I definitely recommend wearing something comfortable. Heels are great, but sometimes the perfect location can include a little off roading. If you’re set on heels, think about bringing a pair of sandals or sneakers to wear until you get to the exact spot you’ll be shooting. Whatever shoe you wear, I would try to make sure that they aren’t dirty on top. Shoes are also a fun way to add a pop of color to your fit.
I highly suggest scheduling your hair / makeup trial for the day of your session! Professional hair + makeup tend to last longer – which will be great for your session. (P.S. don’t forget to touch up your nails so I can get shots of your ring!)
If you’re not doing professional hair and makeup, make sure you practice or make a plan for your hair and makeup before the day of your shoot. Probably not the time to try something new without having practiced it before.
